As many football fans get prepared to watch this year’s Super Bowl in a few weeks and get turnt up(I couldn’t help myself) for what I’m calling the halftime show for the “Straights and Lesbians” with Bruno Mars and Red Hot Chilli Peppers, we all must pay homage to the most scandalous half time show of all time featuring Janet, Ms. Jackson if you’re nasty, and Justin Timberlake.
It’s funny how time flies when you caused chaos. Nipplegate, as it became known, almost ruined the career of a pop icon and while catapulting a career of a pop icon in the making. Let’s roll the beautiful bean footage. Janet, who was getting prepared to release her eighth(or for stans’ sakes, sixth) studio album, Damita Jo, and Justin was riding high with the success of his debut album, Justified, so them performing at the 2004 Superbowl was a pop music orgasm waiting to happen. And bam! Justin Timberlake rips Janet’s bra, titty pops out, nipple ring exposed, and “wardrobe malfunction” was introduced to pop culture. After the incident, Janet was blackballed from the radio and television causing her last three albums, Damita Jo, 20 Y.0., and Discipline to not perform well on the charts like her previous albums. Justin Timberlake, on the other hand, went on to bring SexyBack put on his suit and tie, and became the top selling R&B artist of 2013.
So what has Janet done lately? Janet was sentenced to star in three Tyler Perry movies, get married to a wealthy Middle Eastern man and say to hell with music completely(in my mind anyway). Oh the Horror! Life can be so cruel.
