Before you continue reading this article, you have one minute to recite Oprah Winfrey’s dialogue from the ultimate black people movie, The Color Purple. ” All my life I had to fight. I had to fight my daddy. I had to fight my uncles. I had to fight my brothers. A girl child ain’t safe in a family of mens, but I ain’t never thought I’d have to fight in my own house!! I loves Harpo, God knows I do. But I’ll kill him dead ‘fo I let him beat me.” Now that you have that out of your system, please continue reading.
According to fellow blogger, B. Scott, BET is making him feel like Ms. Sofia in regards to blogger’s allegations of transphobia from the network. Ya’ll remember last summer B. Scott filed a lawsuit against BET for making him change his female attire into a more “masculine” look? Well it seems like the suit is ongoing.
According to TMZ, B. Scott says the lawsuit has made him feel like Miss Sofia because all of his life he had to fight to be who he is. Scott also says the incident made him realized that he was transgendered and he believes that his identity, not his sexuality, made him a target of BET.
I’m going to keep it 1000, not 100. I actually liked the man wardrobe better than his female ensemble. When I first watched B. Scott on the preshow for the BET Awards, I thought the look was very different for him but I loved the suit unaware of the behind the scene drama. B. Scott has made appearances on the network several times prior to the award show, so someone had to know that he wears women’s clothes. I commend B. Scott for coming out as transgendered and remaining professional throughout the preshow despite of all the chaos.
With that said, I’m looking forward to hearing about the outcome of the lawsuit. Lord knows if BET loses the suit, they might have to make budget cuts and cancel the Scandal Reruns and The Game(I leaning towards The Game cancellation myself).
